A beautiful natural finish that brings buildings to life with its varying hues and textures.
Problems:
Stone can be easily damaged by graffiti and defaced over the long term through mould and fungal growth and dirt collection.
Limestone and sandstone are particularly susceptible to this damage due to their high porosity. Damage can also occur in high salt content environs and or where water or acid rain are in regular contact with these surfaces.

Acid Etched, Shot Blast, laminated, off-form, precast – concrete is flexible in finish and colour and very popular for major structures due to its overall strength and appearance.
Problems:
Problems can arise on concrete with its porous nature – even on high density concrete – with graffiti damage as well as pollution, fungal and dirt collection.
Long term ledge stains and the effects of mould and mildew growth can discolour and damage concrete.

The costs involved to rectify these problems are simply too much to contemplate for many high rise structures and protective coats are much needed.

Brick work means strength and a high degree of varying textures and colours to use.
Problems:
However, depending on firing, bricks and their mortar can be damaged by airborne or soil born water and salt particularly in coastal environments. Brick with its rough textures is also susceptible to un-removable graffiti damage known as ‘ghosting’.
In particular the mortar joints can be one of the weakest links in the brick work and is extremely receptive to water and salt entry as well as growth from moss fungi and mould. These can all eat away at the mortar and weaken the brick works structure.

Paint & Harsh Environments
While it beautifies a building, paint does not always protect surfaces in harsh conditions. Marine & coastal areas with their high salt and moisture content in the air are particularly harsh on standard acrylic paints and substantially reduce their lifetime.

To counter this destruction preparatory coats of H-100 Silane on bare block or cement work can be performed prior to painting to prevent salt entering the substrate and damaging it.
Problems:
Graffiti quickly destroys the look of paint and removal of graffiti can either penetrate or destroy the paint surface. Repainting to cover graffiti can be performed but, particularly with modern bright colours, covering the graffiti can take many coats and non-matching paint patches can quickly disfigure a building.

Paint and Render in their myriad of colours allows maximum flexibility with colour while providing protection to surfaces.
Problems:
Similar in nature to household acrylic paint, that is water based and exterior durable, these finishes either have a texture pre-coat or particles in the topcoat to form the texture. Modern texture finishes are also durable hence their popularity.
However, due to repair costs and re-coating problems graffiti protection can be paramount so that the texture finish is not ruined. In inner city or in humid areas, pollution also plays a role as texture coatings can provide the perfect place for dirt and spores to attach and form large tracts of stains.

Building artwork and murals can be an expression of the community and art in general.
Problems:
Unfortunately murals usually end up being targets for graffiti and can also weather badly over time. Due to multiple layers of various paints (sometimes water and oil based in the same mural) as well as the time and effort that goes into these projects protection is a chief concern. Terracotta and slate tiles provide a fantastic floor covering and can bring the natural rich tones to living and outdoor areas.
Problems:
These tiles are usually quite susceptible to dirt collection and fungal or mould growth particularly in outdoor settings where they are exposed to the elements and can be easily damaged from BBQ’s or other stains.
Grouting around the tiles can suffer from similar problems and attracts mould and moss growth.

Wood has an outstanding natural appearance that lifts and brightens buildings inside and out.
Problems:
Sunlight, Salt (marine environs), mould and fungal growth and water can all easily destroy wood in a short time frame. Graffiti can be quite difficult to remove due to the fibres of wood being so porous. Long life coatings that do not breakdown by peeling or blistering in UV light or harsh conditions should be used to protect wooden surfaces.
Any failure of coating can allow water and sun damage to destroy wood beyond repair. These Hydron coatings will not peel or blister in harsh conditions and UV light like many common coatings.

A striking finish for signage, fencing and architectural flourishes.
Problems:
Signs and metal work frequently face graffiti attack that can prove quite damaging to the surface to remove. For this type of work Forminex V has no equal. Its extreme UV light resistance and durability allow it to face extreme conditions while still providing outstanding graffiti protection from marker pen and spray paint.
Forminex V will expand and contract with metal work to provide long lasting protection. On painted or vinyl cut signs, Forminex V adheres extremely well to paint forming a durable bond with enamels and acrylics and it will not hurt vinyl cut lettering nor separate from it. This protection will save in costly repairs and maintenance.
